# Phone numbers and carrier costs

> Choose a new number, connect an existing number or use SIP, with costs confirmed before activation.

You can choose a new number in the platform, connect an existing number or integrate a compatible phone system through SIP. Availability, documentation and carrier cost depend on the country and number type.

## Choose a new number

Search available countries and regions in the dashboard. The recurring price and capabilities are shown before purchase. Some countries require identity or business documents before a number can be activated.

## Keep an existing number

Depending on the use case, you can:

* verify an existing caller ID for outbound calls;
* route an existing phone system through SIP; or
* port an eligible number to the supported carrier setup.

<Warning>
  Do not cancel service with your current carrier before a number port is complete. Cancelling early can cause the number to be released or become unavailable.
</Warning>

## Variable costs

These items may be separate from the plan's AI voice rate:

* monthly number rental;
* destination- or origin-dependent carrier usage;
* toll-free, mobile, premium or regulated number surcharges;
* taxes and country-specific registration work;
* charges from your own SIP, PBX or telephony provider.

Supported.tech shows or confirms separate pricing before activation whenever possible. For a country or number type not listed in the dashboard, [contact us](https://www.supported.tech/contact) with the required country, inbound/outbound use and expected volume.

## Portability

Eligible phone numbers can be ported when carrier and regulatory requirements allow it. Keep account information, proof of ownership and recent carrier records available; they may be required to authorize the port.
